So much of life can feel intimately, intricately beautiful, but that’s not always the case.
“On the other side of the blade it can be dark,brutal and vastly complicated,” Phillip Taylor, frontman of Tampa band Sleeping Pills told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.
The post-punk band explores that lost feeling in a new video for “Endless Maze,” the fourth single from its summer 2022 album, A Bend In Time.
Written and recorded as the band quarantined together in the same house during the pandemic, the nearly-four-minute cut wears Sleeping Pills’ familiar new wave vibe and is accompanied by a clip, shot and edited by Joey Mustang, that finds Taylor wandering aimlessly, chasing whatever’s inside a blinking red television.
Since recording the album, Sleeping Pills has acquired a new bassist (Ben Saylor of Jensen Serf Co., Gino and the Goons), and started work on the band’s fifth album and plans on booking another local show soon.
